Why SIEM should be on your 2011 short list
November 30, 2010 at 2pm ET
At the onset of 2011, information security is in a rapid state of change. The threat landscape grows more pervasive and sophisticated each day with new attacks targeting applications, zero-day vulnerabilities, and even industrial control systems. At the same time, IT infrastructure is also in the midst of a dynamic shift through the use of mobile devices, virtual infrastructure and cloud computing.
Can existing security safeguards like SIEM systems keep up with massive changes in IT and the threat landscape? Not according to Jon Oltsik, principal analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. Oltsik believes that legacy SIEM systems lack the appropriate scale, scope, and functionality to satisfy burgeoning enterprise security requirements for real-time threat management, monitoring security controls, or forensic investigations. According to Oltsik, "the threat landscape is changing, IT is changing, regulatory compliance is changing, and IT security requirements are changing. SIEM has to accommodate these changes or the whole category will become obsolete."
Next generation high performance, content aware SIEMs have the speed, scale and awareness to address these upcoming challenges. Join Jon and Michael Leland of NitroSecurity to understand cyber threat and compliance drivers, real world use cases and advance SIEM capabilities available to help IT security teams regain the advantage in the coming year.
